Every image in this folder must have a row here before it is used in a chapter. Several are under licences that make attribution a legal condition, not a courtesy - so the credit travels with the picture.

Read the status column before using any of these. Two have a licence; five do not yet. Only the NORD-1 photo's licence was verified from the source itself - the NORD-12 one came from Ronny.

File Subject Author / rights Licence Source Status
nord-1/ND_NORD-1.TS.jpg NORD-1 cabinet on display Thomas Skogestad CC BY-SA 2.5 - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5 Wikimedia Commons, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ND_NORD-1.TS.jpg (ndwiki mirrors it) VERIFIED via the Commons API, 2026-08-27. Photographed 2006-11-10, own work. Attribution required, share-alike. .TS in the file name is the author's initials.
nord-12/NTM_TELE-TKU-8004_NORD-12_Front.jpg NORD-12 serial 85, Telemuseum accession 8004, front view in storage Telemuseet (the image carries a "Telemuseet" watermark, bottom right) CC BY-SA 3.0 - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0 ndwiki, File:NTM_TELE-TKU-8004_NORD-12_Front.jpg Licence supplied by Ronny, 2026-08-27. I could not confirm it myself - the file is not on Wikimedia Commons and the ndwiki file page has no Wayback snapshot, so no licence statement was reachable from here. Attribution required, share-alike: credit Telemuseet.
nord-1/Nord1-TekniskMuseum.jpg NORD-1 front panel, close up, on museum display. Badge reads NORD-1 and A/S NORSK DATA-ELEKTRONIKK; key switch, POWER, rotary knob, 16 lamps numbered 15..0 over 16 toggle switches, INTERRUPT / PROTECT / LOAD and DEPOSIT / SET ADDRESS / SINGLE INSTR. / CONT. / STOP NOT ESTABLISHED - ASK RONNY NOT ESTABLISHED File name says Teknisk Museum. Not on Wikimedia Commons under this name NEEDS RONNY. Added 2026-08-30 at his instruction. It is plainly a different photograph from the Wikimedia one above - a modern phone picture, brick wall and glazed atrium behind. If Ronny took it, say so here and pick a licence; until then it must not be used in a chapter, per the rule at the top of this file.
nord-1/Nord1-FullHeightTekniskMuseum.jpg The SAME cabinet, full height, beside a separate operator/display console NOT ESTABLISHED - ASK RONNY NOT ESTABLISHED As above NEEDS RONNY. Same sitting as the close-up - same cabinet, same scuffs on the lower door, same wall.
nd-5000/nd-5000-compact.jpg A Compact cabinet - the badge reads "ND-5700 Compact", not ND-5000 unknown NOT ESTABLISHED norsk-data.com (Sintran Data), history/nd-5000.jpg - confirmed Source now confirmed, licence still not granted. Byte-identical in size (51,489) to history/nd-5000.jpg in the local mirror at E:\Dev\Ronny\mirror-sintran-com. The file name disagrees with the machine - use the badge. norsk-data.com carries "Copyright (c) Sintran Data" with no licence grant.
nd-5000/nd5800cpu-samson.jpg An ND-5800 "Samson" CPU board - large multi-section board, many gold-lidded ceramic packages unknown NOT ESTABLISHED norsk-data.com (Sintran Data), history/nd5800cpu.jpg - confirmed Source now confirmed: byte-identical in size (30,963) to history/nd5800cpu.jpg in the local mirror. Licence still not granted.
nd-5000/nd5850cpu-rallar.jpg An ND-5850 "Rallar" CPU board - single board with card ejectors, dense memory arrays along one side unknown NOT ESTABLISHED norsk-data.com (Sintran Data), history/nd5850cpu.jpg - confirmed Source now confirmed: byte-identical in size (30,493) to history/nd5850cpu.jpg in the local mirror. Licence still not granted.

The norsk-data.com images: source confirmed, permission still not asked

These three came from norsk-data.com, and that is now verified rather than guessed. The local mirror at E:\Dev\Ronny\mirror-sintran-com holds the originals in mirror/history/, and the file sizes match exactly - 51,489 / 30,963 / 30,493 bytes.

Confirming where they came from does not confer a licence. That site's footer reads "Copyright (c) Sintran Data" and grants nothing.

Fifteen more history photographs sit in the same folder, unused so far: founders.jpg, nord-1.jpg, nord-5.jpg, nord-10.jpg, nord-10-50.jpg, nord-100.jpg, nd-100.jpg, nd-500.jpg, nd120cpu.jpg, nd-f16.jpg, nd-gti.jpg, nd-drift.jpg, rd-dep.jpg, technostation.jpg, history.gif. The same permission question covers all of them, so it is worth asking once.

Jonny Oddene at Sintran Data scanned most of the ND manuals in Reference-Manuals/ and has been generous with the preservation community, so asking is likely to get a yes. Asking is still the step that has not been taken.

Using them inside this repo for research is one thing; putting them on a public page is another. Do not do the second without a licence.

Rules for this folder

  • One sub-folder per machine: nord-1/, nord-12/, nd-5000/, and so on.
  • Keep the original file name from the source wherever possible. It is often the only thread back to the author - .TS is how the NORD-1 photo's author was found, and TELE-TKU-8004 is how the NORD-12 machine was identified.
  • But do not trust a file name over the picture. nd-5000-compact.jpg shows a machine badged ND-5700.
  • Never add an image without trying to find out who took it. "Found on a wiki" is not a source - the wiki is often mirroring someone else, as the NORD-1 photo turned out to be mirroring Wikimedia Commons.
  • When a chapter shows an image, the caption names the author and the licence. If the licence is not established, the caption says that too.
