Question for the GOD LLM - the responder running-number (Flags1) rule is still wrong; deep pcap analysis needed

Why we are back here

We have now seen THREE distinct live outcomes for the connect-accept Flags1, and no single rule you have given us explains all three. We need you to derive the accept-Flags1 rule from the pcaps directly - specifically the RELATIONSHIP between 100's connect Flags1 and the responder's accept Flags1 in every captured session - and tell us if a NEW capture is required. Please do not answer from first principles again; mine the byte data.

The three live outcomes (all 100<->102, seed 0x14, our node = 102)

  1. FRESH 100 (it sent a ReachabilityRequest, then connected at Flags1 0x0000). Our accept at our Flags1 0x0000 (epoch 0, channel DA). => FULL SUCCESS: MOTD, SYSTEM/SYSTEM login, menu, disconnect all worked end to end. [VERIFIED live 2026-07-04 18:07]

  2. CLIMBED 100 (no ReachabilityRequest; connect at Flags1 0x0014), accept forced to our Flags1 0x0000 (epoch 0, DA):

    rx connect  ...0014 0400 DA 00  role E4  XMCSM 04000041
    tx accept   ...0000 0400 DA 14  role 40
    rx RR nr=2  (LAPB only)

    => SILENT STALL: 100 ACKs at LAPB but sends no datagram ACK, no session-setup, no MOTD. We are BEHIND 100's expected-from-us. [live 18:51]

  3. CLIMBED 100 (connect at Flags1 0x0015, on channel D9), accept = CONTINUED from our persisted store which held 0x0015:

    rx connect  ...0015 0400 D9 FF  role E4  XMCSM 04000041   (100's connect rode D9)
    tx accept   ...0015 0400 D9 FF  role 40                    (our accept F1 == connect F1 == 0x0015, D9)

    => 100 CRASHED: "XMSG fatal error ... XMSG error code 24B" (XXPER). [live 19:08]

The contradiction we cannot resolve

  • Your epoch-1-fix answer said: responder starts Flags1 at 0x0000 per connect; an epoch-1 accept on D9 crashes. (You later called this a misreading.)
  • Your climbed-reconnect answer said: CONTINUE the per-link Flags1 from the store; epoch-1 D9 accepts are fine (cited new-conn f60 = D9/F1 0x0046, start-li-li f106 = D9/F1 0x00E9); the 24B crash was an ECHO of the asker's Flags1 (accept F1 == connect F1), not resuming.
  • BUT outcome 3 shows continue-from-store PRODUCED accept F1 == connect F1 (both 0x0015, D9) and crashed - the exact echo you said continuation avoids. When our own per-link counter and 100's connect Flags1 coincide (symmetric history), continuation IS the echo. So "just continue" is incomplete, and "just reset to 0x0000" stalls on a climbed peer. Neither works for a climbed 100.

What we need you to extract from the pcaps (the key relationship)

For EVERY captured connect-to session (list below), please tabulate, from the raw bytes: 1. 100's CONNECT-letter Flags1 and channel (the asker's F1). 2. The responder's ACCEPT Flags1, counter and channel (our direction). 3. Whether accept F1 == connect F1 in any session (we believe NEVER - please confirm/deny). 4. The DELTA (accept F1 - connect F1) and whether there is a fixed relationship, OR whether the two are truly independent counters that just never collide in the corpus. 5. For the two epoch-1 D9 accepts you cited (new-conn f60 0x0046, start-li-li f106 0x00E9): what was 100's connect F1 in those SAME sessions? Did the accept differ from the connect F1, and by how much? This is the crux: were those safe because they were continued-and-non-colliding? 6. Whether any capture shows a RECONNECT onto a 100 that did NOT restart XMSG (climbed connect, no ReachabilityRequest) - i.e. the exact scenario that fails for us. If none exists, that is the capture we are missing.

Specific questions

  1. What is the exact accept-Flags1 rule that produces SUCCESS (outcome 1) AND avoids BOTH the stall (outcome 2, behind) AND the crash (outcome 3, colliding echo)? Express it as a formula over the observable inputs (connect F1, our stored counter, seed, epoch).
  2. Is the true invariant "accept F1 must be >= 100's XSRSQ (not behind) AND != connect F1 (no echo)"? If so, when our store value == connect F1, what value do the real captures use instead - store+1? a jump? something keyed off the connect?
  3. Does 100 derive its expected-from-us (XSRSQ) purely from our prior ACKed frames, or does the connect itself carry/reset it? Outcome 3 suggests the connect F1 and XSRSQ are linked in the collision case - is that real?
  4. Is this even solvable responder-side without a fresh capture of a climbed reconnect? If we must capture more pcap to see the real d102's behavior when its store collides with 100's connect, tell us EXACTLY what to capture (e.g. "connect, log in, disconnect, then WITHOUT restarting 100 connect again, and grab the accept").

What we need back

The definitive accept-Flags1 rule derived from the byte data (not first principles), the connect-F1 vs accept-F1 table across the corpus, an explicit statement of whether accept F1 ever equals connect F1, and - if the climbed-reconnect case is not in the corpus - the exact new capture to take. Mark every claim VERIFIED (cite frame) or INFERRED.
