ADDITIONAL PREREQUISITES¶
A) 1 SIBAS process. (1 SIBAS process means one SIBAS system no., to be used for the database 'DIALOGUE', delivered with DIALOGUE Example). For easy installation: use SIBAS system no. 2.
B) 2 internal devices (or SIBAS devices), for an ACCESS DDI process. The devices are to be used exclusively for this example. For easy installation: use numbers 128 and 129.
C) 1 batch processor for exclusive use by the special ACCESS DDI process mentioned above. For easy installation: use batch no. 2. In addition, batch process no. 1 should be available for ordinary batch jobs.
D) 2 user areas defined on a MAIN directory (DEMOMBASE and BACK-DEMOMBASE).

E) Disk Space for These User Areas¶
-
on a DEFAULT directory:
- for DEMOBASE: at least 1500 SINTRAN pages.
- for BACK-DEMOBASE: appr. 1200 SINTRAN pages.
- In addition, DEMOBASE should have space, preferably in a directory on a different disk, for logging the DIALOGUE database. (appr. 100 SINTRAN 1K pages)
F) System User Area¶
2 file entries on the SYSTEM user area, altogether 6 SINTRAN pages must be available for them.
G) Minimal Software Requirements¶
The minimal software requirements are as listed on page 1. Some other software is used in some parts of DIALOGUE Example (but is not absolutely necessary for the example to be useful):
- ACCESS-100 version D
- NOTIS-RG-100 version B
- UNIQUE-II-100 version A
- Note: UNIQUE-II-100 needs the BRF-LINKER version A and FORTRAN-100 version D to be able to use a user-written 'special' routine)
- COSMOS version B or later.
- ABM version A.
If a new version of NOTIS-WP is installed, or a new language version of one of the other products, it may be necessary to reinstall DIALOGUE Example to get it to work perfectly.
2 Changed Prerequisites¶
- User Environment version B is required, and therefore also SINTRAN III version J.
3 Modifications¶
Changeovers to the SYSTEM user area are done automatically when required and allowed. Some help texts and additional menus have been added.

Page 5¶
Installation Procedure¶
I) First-time installation¶
(DIALOGUE Example does not already exist on the computer): Start from "Create user areas", step 1, below.
II) To install the B version when the A version exists:¶
1) Give user BACK-DEMOBASE 400 extra pages.
2) Make sure that users SYSTEM and RT are friends of user DEMOBASE, with friend access RWACD and RWA, respectively.
3) Continue from step 1 in "Copy files from the floppies" (page 7).
III) To re-install the B version¶
(In case of errors during installation, etc.): Start from step 1 in "Copy files from the floppies" (page 7).
Create User Areas¶
1) Log in with the SYSTEM user area as current (through USER-ENVIRONMENT, - or through SINTRAN).
2) Give the command
@DIRECTORY-STATISTICS
For the next step you will need to know how many pages are unreserved in each directory, and which directories are default.
3) Find three directories that meet the following specifications:
| Directory | No. of pages unreserved | Additional requirements |
|---|---|---|
| "PACK-DEMO" | 1500 | Default directory |
| "PACK-BACK" | 1200 | Default directory |
| "PACK-LOG" | 100 | Higher directory index than "PACK-DEMO", or non-default |

The reason you need three different directories is that they will contain, respectively, a SIBAS database, its backup, and its Logs. However, since this is not a "real" database, but only an example, you may use the same directory for all three of these functions. Then you will need only one default directory with 2800 pages unreserved. Doing it in this way only means that the example will not be realistic in this respect. It will not cause any problems.
4) Put the first floppy into FLOPPY-DISC-1, UNIT 0.
5) Log in with SINTRAN user SYSTEM as current user area.
6) Do these commands (give parameters on separate lines as shown):
@ENTER-DIRECTORY↵
DIRECTORY NAME: 10869B00-XX-01↵
DEVICE NAME: FLOPPY-DISC-1↵
DEVICE UNIT: 0↵
@PERFORM↵
:MCRO Filename : (10869B00-XX-01:FLOPPY-USER)PATCH-1:MCRO↵
Macro name (Default = FTN) : CRE-USER↵
7) Answer the questions asked by the perform macro.
This macro creates the user DEMOBASE on the directories "PACK-DEMO" and "PACK-LOG", and the user BACK-DEMOBASE on the directory "PACK-BACK", with the number of pages shown in the above table. It also copies a PERFORM macro file to the SYSTEM user area.
8) Make sure that the user names above have the following unique abbreviations: DEMOB, BACK-DEM.
9) Make sure that PACK-LOG:DEMOBASE is a unique SINTRAN user name when the name of PACK-LOG is abbreviated to at most 4 characters.
Regulate the users' access to the user areas¶
1) Log in with user area BACK-DEMOBASE as current.

Generate Files¶
1) Move to a VDU (screen) terminal, preferably a NOTIS terminal (if you are not already using one).
Some of the steps later in this installation procedure can only be performed from a VDU terminal.
2) Log in with SYSTEM as your user area, in SINTRAN, not in USER-ENVIRONMENT.
Do ØVE-FUNC SINTRAN to get out of the USER-ENVIRONMENT menus, if that is where you are.
SINTRAN is necessary because you cannot use MODE or PERFORM from USER-ENVIRONMENT menus directly.
3) Fill in the two lists of parameters below before you run the perform macros (patch-1 and patch-2) that need these parameters.
If you are installing DIALOGUE Example on a machine where DIALOGUE Example does not already exist, there is not yet a UE user called DIALOGUE-USER. Therefore, when the installation macro asks for the password, you can choose freely, but you will have to give DIALOGUE-USER this password when you create it later.
In the lists below, the 'Line mode' names of the commands in NOTIS-WP are given in English and Norwegian. If you have a NOTIS-WP that is neither English nor Norwegian, you can find these command names as follows:
Start NOTIS-WP and give the command # (to get into line mode). Then write HELP in the appropriate language to get a list of the commands.
For questions regarding DIALOGUE products which are not installed on your machine, giving the default answers will not cause serious problems.
Note that DIALOGUE Example uses a separate version of UNIQUE so that the users can create their own ‘special functions’ without interfering with an operational UNIQUE on the machine. The special version must have the name DUNIQUE-II-A.

7) Do the following:
@PERFORM␍
:MCRO Filename : [BACK-DEMOBASE]PATCH-2␍
Macro name (Default = FTN) : PATCH-2␍
8) Answer the questions, using list 2.
If you make mistakes you may erase a character with CTRL A, or start over from the beginning of the macro patch-1.
9) Type:
@PERFORM (BACK-DEMOBASE)PATCH-1 P-TEST␍
There is a 'bug' in newer PERFORM programs which makes trouble for the USER-ENVIRONMENT system: it cannot take all parameters from a single line. This is a test for that 'bug'. If you get 'a b OK' on the screen at the end, your PERFORM does not have this 'bug'. If it cannot find the macro P-TEST, however, you must install PERFORM-E, which can be found as a .PROG file on the user area BACK-DEMOBASE.
Another possibility is to append the file (BACK-DEMOBASE)DIALOGUE:MCRO to (SYSTEM)PERFORM-LIBRARY:MCRO (eg. by using NOTIS-WP). This will decrease the performance of the PERFORM system, but you can then use the PERFORM program you are accustomed to.

Instructions¶
8) Give the command:
ØPERFORM (DEM0BASE)D:MCRO RESTO-ACCESS↲
This macro copies the ACCESS files and initializes a DDI process exclusively for this DIALOGUE example.
9) Use the default answers, but check that they are OK! If not, start over from step 5 on page 14.
The macro RESTO-ACCESS initiates a batch processor for ACCESS DDI. Although you should not do it now, this batch may be restored to normal use for batch jobs by using the macro INTIMSL:
ØPERFORM (BACK-DEM0BASE)D:INTIMSL↲
10) Look through the tasks 1 to 9 above to check that you did not forget any of them.
11) Start the ACCESS DDI process:
ØMODE (DEM0BASE)ACC-DDI-START:MODE,↲
12) If you end up in a USER ENVIRONMENT menu: log out by using the EXIT key. If you get the message "UE runtime error in: Fetch...", ignore it.
Reduce the Startup Time for ACCESS¶
1) Log in with DEMOBASE as current user area.
2) Enter ACCESS by typing:
ØACCESS ACCESS↲
3) Give the command:
*DUMP↲
ACCESS will respond with:
"The help file has been dumped"

Instructions¶
-
Enter the "WP-environment" menu.
This is done as follows: If you have command menus, type "MW"; if you do not have command menus, type "1".
-
Ensure the following settings:
- "Command menu mode" and "Use document storage" are both set to "N".
-
Command Input:
- Give the "!" command (SHIFT+*).
-
Exit and Logout:
- Press the EXIT key to quit NOTIS-WP.
- Log out of USER ENVIRONMENT by using the EXIT key.
-
Re-login:

-
Restart:
- Start NOTIS-WP again.
-
Final Check:
- Check that "Command menu mode" and "Document storage" are still both "N".
If this is not the case, it means that your NOTIS-WP does not automatically fetch the initfile on startup. You must re-install NOTIS-WP to change this. Unless you do, some of the menu options in Dialogue Example will not work.

Optional Adjustments¶
-
If the name of your NOTIS-WP is not NOTIS-WP, or if "NOTIS-WP" is ambiguous, the results from the RG production program (NOTIS-RP) will not be displayed right after it has been run.
In this case, you may change the name of NOTIS-WP in each of the example reports, by reading the reports one by one into NOTIS-RG. Make the adjustment in the exit command, using the SPECIAL questionnaire. Then store the report again.
-
You may declare the terminals to be USER-ENVIRONMENT terminals by the UE-AUTOMATIC-LOGIN command in SINTRAN.
-
To make sure that your HENT-MODE and the mode/batch files it starts are complete, that is, that they include all the dumps and .starts necessary for DIALOGUE, you can look at the file (DEMOBASE)DEMO-HENT-MODE:MODE to see what is needed.
Notes on the Menu System¶
-
To give a SINTRAN command while in the menus: write
øinstead of choosing a task, and then write the command (with parameters). -
You cannot write
øperformorømodewhen in the menus. Instead write∂UE-FUNC PERFORM↵or
∂UE-FUNC MODE↵ -
If your perform or mode job ends up outside the menus, write
∂UE-MENU↵and you will return to the menus.
-
Press SHIFT + EXIT keys to get directly to the MAIN menu from anywhere!
-
To log out: Press the EXIT key when you are in the MAIN menu.
-
To change the current user area: instead of choosing a menu option, write CHANGE-USER-AREA.
