Patch Kit for ND tpServer Platform (211560) version B 382300B

1 Read This First

The following things are required in order to use this product.

  • This Patch Kit requires versions B01 or B02 of the Basic Software Package for ND tpServer. If the version A09 or earlier of the Software Package is used, you must upgrade it to version B01 first. This Patch Kit is generated with a SINTRAN III/VSX-500 standard C (250306 M06) and a Patch file 7400 (250360 M09).
  • Changing the CPU-number in the UE-DATABASE:

UE will no longer do an automatic change of CPU-number on its database if the CPU-number is changed (or the database is moved to another machine). If the CPU-number is to be changed you must run the program (USER-ENVIRONMENT)UE-CHCPU-D07:PROG before you start the UE P-SERVER.

Even if the UE-DATABASE is not converted from another CPU, it is advisable to run this job because the 'machine name' sometimes is incorrect in the UE-DATABASE.

It is very important that this is taken care of before you start installing this upgrading kit.

The program UE-CHCPU-D07:PROG asks for the name of the database, the name and the CPU-number of the old machine. XMSG must be running and the local machine must be defined as the first machine name in XMSG.

The latest version of this program must be used. It can be copied from this Patch Kit to the user area USER-ENVIRONMENT.

  • Software Keys (210507B)

After installing this Patch Kit, all previously installed software keys are lost and must be reinstalled. Ensure that the diskette(s) with all necessary software keys are available before you start installation of this Patch Kit. UNIQUE is a product which requires a software key.

+---------------------------------------------+
NOTE!
---------------------------------------------
These procedures for verification and
redefinition of the NOTIS-DS database may
take considerable time on large databases
(several hours).

It is not required that you include this as
part of the installation, but you should
note that the procedures are necessary and
must be done. However, we recommend that
you postpone them to a convenient time.
+---------------------------------------------+
+---------------------------------------------+
NOTE!

  • ND-500/5000 Swapper version L04 (part of ND-500/5000 System Package for SINTRAN III/VSX version M (211305C05))
Report no. Title
  • There might be trashing (100% swapping) if ND-5830/5850 and large FIX areas.
  • Swapper does not move IX pages OVER 32MB during FIX so frequently.
  • Change of strategy for selecting memory if own CPU memory on the ND-5830/5850 is exhausted.
  • Fatal error from Swapper, error code 1008 might sometimes occur. This is related to 'unfix' (which can be invisible to the application) and the use of the 'sequential' mode in 'file as segment' segments.
  • Fatal error from Swapper, error code 2078 (Pagefault in Swapper), after a Disc Transfer Error (message). Internal error. Some internal variables not reset upon error return from segment flush (WSEG).
  • Error in Fix_Segment.
If 'FixToLimits' (-1) and segment size is zero ('FileAsSegment' opened for write), size will be set to 65565 (1777778).
If you have enough memory for the Swapper to accept this, it will fail during page allocating to the file system, and leave memory links looped. This in turn will lead to the Swapper looping at 100% CPU later.
  • Clear TSB inserted for multi ND-5830/5850, because expected trouble at marginal timing.
  • No. of sectors per page in Swapper’s segment table entry is sometimes set to 4; lead to overwriting of memory and the error message: SWAP DEVICE ERROR.
  • Error in BIM flush of SIBAS/F.
SIBAS work area (IBLAN) is sometimes overwritten, and the result will be SIBAS INTERNAL ERROR.
The warning TRYING TO RELEASE ILLEGAL BUFFER may occur first.
  • Error if ND-5830 or ND-5850 CPU and extra MF-memory.
If segment to be fixed needs more than the available memory pages in ND-5850 CPU, the index pages were not correctly allocated. Swapper stops in fatal error.

Report

Report no. Title
  • Error in fix segment.
If fix segment and the segment to be fixed is involving more than two free-parts (One free-part is 8 Mbytes).
    Swapper stops in fatal error.
  • Error 15g if Multi-CPU (ND-5830 or ND-5850).

  • NOTIS-DS for ND-500/5000 (210794E04)
Report no. Title
  • Fatal error in the emulator server. SINTRAN seems to be "hanging" and the file ER-S3WD-LOG:DATA is corrupted.
  • Maximum number of users simultaneously connected to the emulator server is 25, should be 40.
  • When creating a user area in UE-PMAN (version D) and standard NOTIS-DS archive is specified, then MAILBOX with INTRAY and OUTTRAY will not be created automatically.
  • Using DS-BACKUP to copy documents from a NOTIS-DS version D database to a NOTIS-DS version E database, not being a supervisor user, gave error message 'You are not authorized to write this attribute'.
  • Fetching documents from NOTIS-DS version E02 sometimes gave only part of document. This due to wrong max. bytepointer. The symptom was in NOTIS-WP that only the first part of the document was fetched and in NOTIS-CALC that the program hung.
  • The List/Start command did not differ between document names ending in hyphen (-) and document names not ending in hyphen but equal up to the hyphen character.
  • The List/Start command would list all ambiguous document names even if there was one unique name.
  • The command Administration/Copy hierarchy also copied the documents while it should only copy the drawers and folders.
  • Copying an empty document from SINTRAN gave error message 'No such page' and the copying halted.

SPRINT Spooling System (211056A06)

Report no.

Title
OpenLAN printers failed with the message 'Device not reserved'.
The error message "Impossible to send data to printer" occurred too often. If you still get this problem with printers connected to an 8-terminal interface, you should increase the buffer size on the device on input.
SPRINT could close files opened by other RT-programs if the peripheral file is deleted for an OpenLAN printer.
When having close to 60 local and remote printer definitions, SPRINT could sometimes fail to start the local printers.
SSY-SYSF:DATA could be overwritten and cause various problems.
Output files could be printed twice.
Printer definitions could be mixed. This could result in listings being printed on wrong printer.
The SSY-PICT files on the ND-5000 ES and ND-tpServer platforms must reside on user area SPRINT-USER instead of ND-OPERATIONS.
The remote printer definition on the last entry in SPRINT disappeared after restart.
Unconverted printouts via SINTRAN spooling now use default form in SPRINT.

Other hints:

If a printer gives an error message in SPRINT, you should check the printer itself before you stop and start the printer in SPRINT. Unnecessary restarting of printers will jam SPRINT, and you may end up with the message 'Sprint is busy'.

If the error device does not work, you will also get 'Sprint is busy'.

28 Name of temporary mirror pool is reduced to 15 characters ('TEMP-BM-POOL-xx') in order to be able to enter it in SINTRAN if not reconnected/deleted after backup.

29 Spooling files may be restored from volume.

30 A Volume may be spliced on 2 or more floppies.

31 Improved error handling in 'Automatic' execution mode.

32 Both main pool and mirror pool are updated when restoring a contiguous file from volume to a directory on a mirrored pool.

34 Correct error message is given if no batches are available at start-up time.

35 Correct volume name is written to volume in connection with INCREMENTAL DB backup (R-log only).

36 BM-Scheduler. The complete name of the output-file for a scheduled entry is not restricted to 35 characters.

37 Routing the output from LIST-VOLUME directly to a printer will not destroy the object entry of the peripheral file.

39 Correct volume name is written to volume in connection with backup a database for which no R-log is defined.

41 Backup of more databases stored on Domino disks from one SET should not give Nucleus error.

42 The output to message device from BM-Scheduler have been adjusted to reduce buffer requirements.

  • LIST-VOLUME from :MODE/BATCH with output to terminal didn't give correct output
  • Error in updating of start-up time for periodically scheduled entries.
  • Password occurred in error messages
  • Algorithm to create temporary mirror pool was not secure
  • No valid checking of scheduler time data was performed
  • JEC-code was not correctly set in all error situations
  • Blank user on directory was treated as significant

Special Modification Patches

Special Modification patches may now be installed while SINTRAN is running.

The installation is done as follows:

  1. Edit the file (SYSTEM)PF-MODIF-M:FADM so it contains the number(s) of the patch(es) you want to install (for example PN032). Ensure that the file is in 7-bit format.

  2. Run the program (SPEC-MODIF-PATCH)SM-PATCH from user SYSTEM.
This program will install the right patches in SINTRAN save area.
During the installation you may get a warning, telling you that the patch is already installed, and a question if you want to reinstall the patch. Normally, you answer No to that question.
An exception is when you are going to install a new version of a patch.

  3. Run a cold start to get the patches into effect.

  4. The files (SYSTEM)SM-PATCH-FILE:OUT and (SYSTEM)SM-PATCHES:OUT are the output files from the SM-PATCH-program.
Inspect them if something goes wrong during the installation.

8 Selecting Language Versions

The products SIBAS Manager and File Manager are available in both English and Norwegian. In both cases, language is set globally for all users of the system.

Similarly, the default language in User Environment can also be set globally. In User Environment, the default language only applies when the user name is not yet known (when logging in, etc.).

Furthermore, the SPRINT Spooling System is available in Danish as well as English and Norwegian.

The following procedures apply:

  • SIBAS Manager

Log in to user area SYSTEM and delete the SIBAS Manager as a standard domain.

Log in to user area SIBR-B and run one of the following mode files:

    SM-LANG-EN:MODE (set language to English)
    SM-LANG-NO:MODE (set language to Norwegian)

Log in to user area SYSTEM and define the SIBAS Manager as a standard domain again.

  • User Environment

Log in to user area USER-ENVIRONMENT and run one of the mode files:

    UE-ENGLISH:MODE (set language to English)
    UE-NORWEGIAN:MODE (set language to Norwegian)

    Then run the mode file:

    @MODE (USER-ENVIRONMENT)UE-LOAD,,,

To set the language to Danish, you must acquire the language-dependent files for the Danish version of UE (diskette directory 21051BD07-DA-01D). Then copy all files except the files IN-UE-DA-D07:**** (3 files) and UE-DA-LAMU-D07:PROG to user area USER-ENVIRONMENT. When this is done, run the mode files UE-DANISH:MODE and then UE-LOAD:MODE.

9 General Information

Defining OpenLAN printers with a SINTRAN spooling queue in SPRINT.

  1. Select a SINTRAN logical device number between 2300₈ and 2377₈ (1216 to 1279 decimal).

  2. Connect the logical device number to the COSPO datafield:

Read the file SYMBOL-2-LIST:SYMB into an editor (for example PED) and find the symbol 'F1731'. Note the value of the symbol.

In a standard M-version the value (datafield address) is 074330.

    Note
This address may be different in later version. You should therefore always verify the value of this address, because patching in the wrong address may cause serious damage to your system.

  3. Then execute the following commands:

    @SINTRAN-SERVICE
    INSERT-IN-LOGICAL-UNIT-TABLE
LOGICAL UNIT NUMBER (OCT): 23xx (use the device number you selected)
    INPUT OR OUTPUT? OUT
DATAFIELD ADDRESS (OCT): 072162 (use the address you noted above)
    MEMORY? YES
    IMAGE? YES
    SAVE-AREA? YES
    EXIT

  4. Define the device number in the S3-CONFIG program and then perform a cold-start or use the command 'SET-SPOOLING-DEVICE' in the SINTRAN Service Program.

  5. Define a peripheral file and spooling files in the usual way.

  6. Stop COSMOS spooling by executing the command @ABORT COSPO
(Otherwise you will get the error message 'Device already defined' when defining the printer in SPRINT).

  7. Define the printer in AIP-HOST:SYMB and SPRINT.

  8. Start COSMOS spooling: @START-SPOOLING COSMOS-SPOOLING

  9. Stop and start SPRINT.
(Otherwise you will get the error message 'Not opened for sequential read' when printing via SINTRAN III).

If the printer is only to be used from NOTIS-WP version N or later or other applications with a direct SPRINT interface, you should skip all steps above except 6 and 8.

Instructions

!! Do NOT restart a printer from SPRINT (without investigating first) !!
If a printer gives an error message in SPRINT, check the printer itself.
If no reason for the problem is evident, you may restart the printer.

Unnecessary starting of printers will 'jam' SPRINT, and you may end up with the message 'Sprint is busy'.

Note that OpenLAN printers may sometimes give 'misleading' error messages. If a printer stops due to paper crash or empty input-bin during a printout, the connection will stay open and give one of the messages 'Printer is occupied. Waiting for access' or 'Impossible to send data to printer' when printing from another system. These messages may then also mean paper crash if they do not disappear within reasonable time.

ALWAYS check the printer itself before you do anything else.
