1 Errors Corrected

The user is not allowed to perform SINTRAN commands unless he/she is authorized to do so in USER-ENVIRONMENT.

Improvements are made to prevent the program from stopping when the internal database is filled up. See the User Guide for details about limitations in the database.

2 New Features in This Version

  • It is now possible to switch to other NOTIS products without losing your context.
  • Polygons and sets of polygons may be hatched.
  • Grouping of objects.
  • Clipping defined by other NOTIS products may be read into NOTIS-DRAW.
  • Menu navigation with mouse.
  • All function keys work when you are positioned in the work area.

3 Installation Procedure

The installation of NOTIS-DRAW is initiated by starting the installation program on the distributed floppies:

  1. Disable your terminal from USER-ENVIRONMENT.

  2. Log in as SINTRAN user SYSTEM.

3) Insert diskette 211019B\<rev>-\<lang>-01 in the diskette station.

4) Enter the directory by typing the following commands:

@ENTER-DIRECTORY↵
DIRECTORY NAME: 211019B<rev>-<lang>-01↵
DEVICE NAME: FLOPPY-DISC-<drive-no>↵
UNIT: <floppy-unit>↵

5) Start the installation program by typing:

@(211019B<rev>-<lang>-01:FLOPPY-USER)INST-DRAW-100-B↵

The installation job will now start and guide you through the installation of NOTIS-DRAW. It checks whether the requirements to perform a successful installation are fulfilled before the installation actually starts.

NOTIS-DRAW is distributed on 2 DS/DD diskettes. The first diskette contains the program and the second diskette all the language dependent files.

To check if the installation was successful, inspect the file DRAW-100-DUMP-B:LOG on SINTRAN user SYSTEM. The file should be deleted after inspection.

NOTE: The installation job copies a file DRAW-PRINTER-B:SYMB to SINTRAN user NOTIS. If you already have an older version of NOTIS-DRAW, you also have an older version of this file. In that case, please make sure to edit the new file and delete the older version of this file. See chapter 7 for how to edit DRAW-PRINTER.

4 Define NOTIS-DRAW as Reentrant Program

To define NOTIS-DRAW as a reentrant program, you must run the MODE file DUMP-DRAW-B-100. This file is placed on the same user area as the program files are installed. Add the following in the MODE file used during cold start (usually called DUMP-REENTRANT:MODE or HENT-MODE:MODE):

@MODE (program-user)DUMP-DRAW-B-100:MODE

5 Delete NOTIS-DRAW Version A

It is possible to have both A and B versions of NOTIS-DRAW installed on the same computer. However, we recommend that you only have the last version installed.

The following instructions show how to delete NOTIS-DRAW version A.

  • The transmission speed on the logical device has to be set according to the setting on the plotter. This speed has to be set explicitly, and is done by the following procedure:
@SINTRAN-SERVICE↵
*CHANGE-DATAFIELD (LDN),I,Y,Y,N↵
TSPEED/ XXXXX 210↵       (for 9600 baud)

*EXIT↵

For terminal-lines, TSPEED is often set to -1 (177777), which means that the transmission is done according to the terminal setting (soft-switches). This will not work on the plotter!! The transmission speed has to be set on the terminal-card for a whole four-group before starting the machine. Redefinition in software may be done afterwards.

  • If you wish, run a test program for the plotter. See the Operation and Interconnection Manual that accompanies the HP-plotter.

6.3 Preparing the Philips, ND616CM, ND720 and Epson Printers

The printers ND-104480 (Philips), ND-110143 (ND616CM) and ND720 are set up as usual. There are no special requirements. NOTIS-DRAW takes care of switching between graphic and alphanumeric modes.

7 How to edit the DRAW-PRINTER file

The printer description file DRAW-PRINTER-B:SYMB on user NOTIS contains information used by NOTIS-DRAW during printing. After the installation is finished, you should check if some of these parameters have to be changed.

The first line:

@ENTER <sintran-user>,<passw.>,<proj.passw.>,<no. of min.>

This is the first line of a batch input file. This line will be used by NOTIS-DRAW to create the batch input file for printing jobs. On the example file supplied on the floppies, the SINTRAN user is FLOPPY-USER without a password. You may change this to be any SINTRAN user, but remember that you have to supply the user's password! (The batch job may take several minutes).

When the spooling system SPRINT version A02 is available, the drawings will be prepared for printing by SPRINT. The DRAW-PDRIVER program will then append the drawings to the SPRINT spooling queue instead of the SINTRAN spooling queue.

The second line:

1

This is the batch process number to which the job will be appended.

NOTIS:

This is a tag the system uses to find other NOTIS products that should be possible to reach directly from NOTIS-DRAW. The tag must remain unchanged.

The NOTIS definitions follow immediately after the NOTIS tag

<NOTIS product abbreviation>,<Standard domain name>
  • <NOTIS product abbreviation>: Abbreviated product name. Ex: WP
  • <Standard domain name>: Name of standard domain. Ex: NOTIS-WP-N

For the time being the following products are available to be included here:

  • NOTIS-WP version N
  • NOTIS-DS version C
  • NOTIS-ID version B-02N
  • NOTIS-BG version C
  • NOTIS-RG version D
  • NOTIS-CALC version E

SPRINT Version A

You may insert up to 10 products, and the length of each abbreviation may be up to 6 characters.

Printers:

This is a tag the system uses to find printer and plotter names and must remain unchanged.

The rest of the lines in the DRAW-PRINTER file:

<Logical printer/plotter name>,<Phys. name>,<"Device number">
  • <Logical printer/plotter name>: This is the name used in NOTIS-DRAW. You may change it.
  • <Phys. name>: This is the name of the Peripheral file or Spooling file for the plotter or printer.
  • <"Device number">: This number is only used internally in NOTIS-DRAW to know which type of device it is.
Device Number Description
0 For the plotter (A0-A2 plotter)
1 For the plotter
2 For the plotter (slow)
3 For Philips GP300
4 For Philips ELPHO
5 For Epson
6 For Philips ELPHO with 300 dpi resolution
7 For ND Matrix printer 616CM
-1 For ND Laser printer ND720

Note that device number 6 will give twice the resolution as number 4, but it is very time consuming.

When the spooling system SPRINT version A02 is installed on your computer, the spooling system will also handle printing of graphics. Change the <Logical printer name> to the name defined in SPRINT and delete the <Phys. name> in the DRAW-PRINTER file.

Example: DONALD-PHILIPS-,3

See Appendix D in NOTIS-DRAW User Guide for a more detailed description.

If you already have a version of the printer description file, a file DRAW-PRINTER-B:NEW will be made. If you want to use this new file, please make sure to update the new file and then delete the old file DRAW-PRINTER-B:SYMB, and rename the new file by typing:

@DELETE-FILE (NOTIS)DRAW-PRINTER-B:SYMBJ
@RENAME-FILE (NOTIS)DRAW-PRINTER-B:NEW :SYMBJ

8 Include Pictures in Text Documents

You may integrate your drawings in documents made by NOTIS-WP. There are two print directives in NOTIS-WP for this purpose: ^IN-BG; and ^IN-GRAPH;. The first of these directives requires the NOTIS-WP-M07. The latter requires the N version of NOTIS-WP and the spooling system SPRINT version A02 or later. ^IN-BG; will also work with the N version of NOTIS-WP. NOTIS-DRAW uses a batch processor to convert a drawing to the :PICT format required for the ^IN-BG; directive. The output file for the batch processor is the peripheral file DUMMY on SINTRAN user area SYSTEM.

NOTE: The M07 version of NOTIS-WP needs a patch to be able to handle the ^IN-BG; directive properly. Run the MODE job WP-100-M07-PATCH, distributed on the installation floppy, to set the patches.

  1. Enter SINTRAN user area SYSTEM
  2. Run the mode job by typing
@MODE WP-100-M07-PATCH:MODEJ

This patch will only change the NOTIS-WP segments and should be run whenever a cold start is performed. Add the following in the mode job used during a cold start (usually called DUMP-REENTRANT:MODE or HENT-MODE:MODE).

@MODE (SYSTEM)WP-100-M07-PATCH:MODE

Note that the mode job must be run after NOTIS-WP has been defined as a reentrant program.

For more detailed instructions of this patch, see the Customer Support Information report for September 1987.

9 Initialization File

The file DRAW-->B:INIT on user NOTIS contains initial parameter settings (font name, character size, etc.) used by NOTIS-DRAW at start-up. If you want to change some of these default values, log in on user NOTIS, start NOTIS-DRAW and change the default values. Press the ~ key to store the new contents in the INIT-file. (See the NOTIS-DRAW User Guide).

If you already have a version of the initialization file, a file DRAW-->B:NEW will be made.
