Note: A reference card for terminal types other than NOTIS should be appended to the User Manual.
Note: UNIQUE-II ISAM cannot be run without UNIQUE Text System.
Note: The file FORTRAN-2BANK-E0 has 32 bits floating numbers. Several ND-100 machines have 48 bits floating numbers. Therefore do not use this file for anything else than loading UNIQUE-II.
1 Known, But Not Corrected Errors¶
- If the specified default file cannot be opened, default values are used, but no error message or warning is given. The user will think the default file was OK, and will not understand why wrong defaults are used.
- The accumulate function is not working properly if the field is not in the database.
- Groups cannot be used in expressions (compute, if, etc.). The compiler will not inhibit this and the application will not run correctly if groups are used in expressions.
- The :UNIQ compiler gives wrong error message (fields width too small) if the format code is not correct (eg '00001', '33').
- If a field is defined to be longer on the screen than in the base, UNIQUE will not handle this properly (the correction of this error will cause this to be illegal).
- UNIQUE cannot handle remote printers/files when using the print commands.
- MENU-COMM may be used to enter a new application with current record. Problem: current record is set from next field, not from the calling field. If next field is another record, then this record will be transferred.
- If F7 gives no result using a group key, all the fields in the group are set to zero. This makes the use of F7 very little user-friendly.
- If the file (SYS)DDTABLES-Exx:VTM is not available (does not exist, no access, ambiguous etc.), UNIQUE gets suspended without giving any error message.

# 2 MODIFICATIONS
Note: The two next sections should be copied and distributed to all users of UNIQUE-II.
## 2.1 MODIFICATION TO THE USER MANUAL
- Section 4.1 ACCESS CONTROL is only for UNIQUE-II SIBAS. UNIQUE-II ISAM does not have an access control system.
## 2.2 MODIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE PROGRAMMER'S MANUAL
- Error on page 33 in Programmer's Manual:
```
if ("Field-A"... if ("Field-C"....
```
should be:
```
if("Field-A"... if("Field-C"....
```
There must not be any space between `if` and `(`.
- Error on page 157 in Programmer's Manual:
```
field="FLDA" if("OLD:FLDA<>FIELD") then
error
endif
```
should be:
```
field="FLDA" if("OLD:FLDA<>FLDA")
error( <melding> )
endif
```
- Addition to chapter 4.5.16 LEGAL-VALUES: Error message from (IL)LEGAL-VALUES does not contain a list of (il)legal values.
- Addition to section 4.5.18 INITIAL-VALUE (example): The initial value, PRICE, must be put into the field, ORDPRICE, *before* the record ORDLINE is fetched. In the example, this is done by join-key to register PART in the first line after the repeat command. Afterwards there is a key to fetch the ORDLINE record.

- Error on page 73 in Programmer's Manual:
Add the following after the sentence, "See chapter 7 'Communication with other program systems' for more information":
**6.11 Special program commands**
- Modifications to chapter 11.6 SINGLE-USER VS MULTIUSER and 12 DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ISAM AND SIBAS :
ISAM and :DATA files have to be predefined for both single- and multiuser ISAM mode.
- There is a new option available in the :BASE file, called OWNER. You can now specify the owner of all the registers belonging to one database (ref. data-base-name in the :BASE file). If the OWNER option is used, UNIQUE expects to find all the register files (:ISAM & :DATA) and the register description file (:INFO) on this user. If the option is not used, the default is your own user.
Example : data-base-name=COMPANY,isam-mode=0,owner=USER
data-base-name=ORDRBASE,isam-mode=0
- Instead of having all the registers on one USER (ref. OWNER option) you can override this in the :INFO file. Here you specify the owner of each register as a prefix to the register name(s). The owner must be written inside brackets ().
The second possibility is to override the ISAM-MODE in the :BASE file, and have one isam-mode for each register. This is specified after the register name, separated by comma.
Default values for the owner and isam-mode of each register are the ones used in the :BASE file.
Example: (USER-X)CUSTOMER,1
```
|------ isam-mode of the
| CUSTOMER register
|
|-----> owner of the CUSTOMER register
```
- Chapter 6.3 THE ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM is only for UNIQUE-II SIBAS. UNIQUE-II ISAM does not have an access control system.

- Add the following text into Programmer’s Manual chapter 8.1 'Design of SPECIAL subroutines' at the end of page 78:
Note the difference between ISAM/SIBAS when using FORTRAN SPECIAL:
- SIBAS
For parameter BREC the whole record will be transferred. You will find the actual field's value by using the UFLDINFO special routine to get the start position in the record before accessing BREC.
- ISAM
Only the field value for current field will be transferred in BREC from position 1 and onwards.
Using internal UNIQUE special routines:
Instead of using BREC parameter in SPECIAL call use UQGFLD, to get field's value-buffer, and use UQSFLD, to set field's value-buffer.
- Add the following text into Programmer’s Manual chapter 8.3 'Internal UNIQUE routines avail...' at the end of page 88 after UFLDINFO-description:
UNIQUE internal special routine for ISAM-users:
UQISDATA - Get field information using register name & item name.
COBOL and FORTRAN interface:
CALL UQISINFO(regname,itmname,regid,reclen,itmid,itmstrt,itmlen)
| Name | Direction | Type | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
| REGNAME | INPUT | int | Register name (4 int*2 words) |
| ITMNAME | INPUT | int | Item name (4 int*2 words) |
| REGID | OUTPUT | int*2 | Register id (use in ISAM calls) |
| RECLEN | OUTPUT | int*2 | Record length on ISAM file |
| ITMID | OUTPUT | int*2 | Item id (use in ISAM calls) |
| ITMSTRT | OUTPUT | int*2 | Item start addr. in record |
| ITMLEN | OUTPUT | int*2 | Item length in bytes |
When using ISAM-calls in your SPECIAL routine you can get both register id & item id, which are parameters required in ISAM-calls.
- ISAM does not have display formats. UNIQUE display formats are used in the application examples described in chapter 2 in the Programmer’s Manual.

3 Installation¶
3.1 Software Key, Protection of the UNIQUE-II Product¶
To avoid unauthorized installation of the product, UNIQUE-II uses the Software Key system of SINTRAN III. The Software Key is delivered along with UNIQUE-II. Assure that the Software Key is properly installed before installing UNIQUE-II.
If UNIQUE-II still does not start correctly, check with your local ND office that the CPU number of your SINTRAN III is correct. If SINTRAN III is generated with incorrect CPU number, it must be regenerated.
3.2 ISAM Data Buffer Size¶
The xxKB-ISAM-BUFFER:BRF files are used to set the ISAM data buffer size. Maximum size is 22Kb if the applications in your installation does not contain any SPECIAL routines. If there are SPECIALS involved, you have to reduce the ISAM buffer size at least as much as the data area size of the SPECIAL routines. The possible ISAM buffer sizes are 22-, 20-, 18-, 16-, 14-, 12-, 10- and 8Kb. By inspecting the load run, you will find out how much you have to reduce the ISAM buffer size.
Example: Data area size in SPECIAL routine = 2.5Kb. ISAM buffer max. size = 22Kb - 2.5Kb = 19.5Kb. => You have to use 18Kb-ISAM-BUFFER:BRF.
In the course of the installation procedure you will be asked to specify the ISAM buffer size. When this occurs, answer 18.
Note: Loading the first PROG-file (A-UNIQ-II-I-B).
FREE : P 177777 D 175777
You must check that the data area upper limit is less than 175777. If it is greater than 175777, you will have to tune the SPECIAL's data area and ISAM buffer size so that this value will be less than 175777.
3.3 Installation Procedure¶
Create a user (default=DIALOG-SYS) and give 640 pages if you want to install both UNIQUE and the examples. You need 56 extra pages if you want to copy FORTRAN-2BANK.
Some of the files form an EXAMPLE system for introduction purposes. The EXAMPLE system consists of applications (:UNIQ), ISAM database (:INFO), :ISAM files and :DATA files. These examples are also found in the manuals.
