1 GENERAL

ND-PILOT runtime system will run all programs developed by the ND-PILOT programming environment, ND-211184A for the ND-500/5000, ND-211300A for the ND-100.

how to use ND-PILOT runtime system

To start a ND-PILOT program type:

@PDS /<lang> <file name>

The default file extension (filetype) of a ND-PILOT program file is :PIL.

PDS will only execute ND-PILOT program files made by the ND-PILOT programming environment. All other files will be refused, even if their contents are legal ND-PILOT statements.

2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

ND-PILOT for ND-500/5000 is supplied on two double density diskettes with directory names 211253A-XX-01D and 211253A--01D.

ND-PILOT will not be available on single density diskettes.

Any version of ND-PILOT already installed will not be lost, but only the installed version/revision will be available as standard domains.

We recommend the deletion of old versions before beginning this installation.

Installation Instructions

  1. Log in as user SYSTEM

    Make sure that the required numbers of files and pages are available (prerequisites, page 1).

  2. Insert the first floppy

    Insert the floppy (211253A-XX-01D) into one of your floppy units and execute this command:

    @ENTER-DIRECTORY↵
    DIRECTORY NAME: 211253A<rev>-XX-01D↵
    DEVICE NAME: <DEVICE-NAME>↵
    DEVICE UNIT: <DEVNO>↵
    

    Where <DEVICE-NAME> is the name of your floppy station, normally FLOPPY-DISC-1 or FLOPPY-DISC-2, and <DEVNO> is the unit number, normally 0 or 1.

  3. Start the installation job

    Start the installation job by executing the following command:

    @MODE (211253A--01D;FLOPPY-USER)INST-PILOT-A<rev>:MODE.,↵
    @INST-PILOT-A<rev>↵
    

    The installation job will now start and display this main menu:

        2. Install a language (NO, EN)

        Type a number 1..4 and CR to select a menu option.
        Type 1?..3? and CR to get more info.
    
        What do you want to do? (default 1)? 
    

    Type a number 1..3 and hit CR to select a menu option. Type 4 and CR to exit the installation procedure.

    For the initial installation, it is recommended to execute the menu options in the listed order.

    After the initial installation, parts (2) and (3) may be repeated to install different sets of course files and languages.

    Note that you may execute SINTRAN commands at all prompts.

    Type an '@' and the command followed by CR. The question will be repeated when the command has finished.

If the installation job terminates in an error, solve the problem, re-enter one of the product floppies, and restart the installation procedure with the command:

@INST-PILOT-A<rev>

The files INST-PILOT-A:MODE and INST-PILOT-A:PROG should be deleted when the installation is finished.

2.1 Install Language Independent Parts

As listed on the previous ND SOFTWARE LIBRARY pages, ND-PILOT consists of a language independent part and a language dependant part. You must install the language independent parts and at least one language. (See section 3.2.)

  1. Select (1) in the main menu to install the language independent parts:

  2. This part is quite straightforward. Answer all questions as carefully as possible. All questions have default answers. Press CR once to display the default answer.

    The installation procedure will copy files to SYSTEM and another user, normally DOMAIN-USER.

2.2 Install a Language

As listed on the previous ND SOFTWARE LIBRARY pages, ND-PILOT consists of a language independent part and a language dependant part. You must install the language independent part and at least one language.

The language of your system is stated on one of the ND SOFTWARE LIBRARY pages.

Language Installation

  1. Select (2) in the main menu to install a language.

The floppy 211253A--01D contains files for one language.
is the language code; EN-English, NO-Norwegian etc.

Which language do you want to install (Default: EN)? _

  1. Type CR twice to install the English files.

Or:

Type NO and press CR to install the Norwegian files.

The installation procedure will copy UE-ERMSG--D:ERR onto user SYSTEM.

When the installation procedure has terminated, delete all superfluous revisions of the UE-ERMSG- file, keeping the newest.

For example, if you have the D00, and the D02, delete the D00 revision.

If you have the C06 and the D02 versions, do not delete any of them! Other software may need older versions (as C06) to execute properly.

2.3 Install Course (or Example) Files

The third ND-PILOT floppy contains some example files. You are free to choose whether you want these files installed or not.

  1. Select (3) in the main menu to install the course (or example) files:

The language selected here should be the same as selected when installing the language dependant parts. Some information about the course (or example) files will be displayed.

  • Most courseware supplied by ND will need to start other processes. The USER-ENVIRONMENT user name used for this purpose is: PILOT
  • The courseware will ask for the password of the UE-user PILOT when necessary.
  • When the installation has terminated, enter @UE-PMAN and check the UE-user PILOT:

    .. UE user name PILOT .. A password. (Supply this password to all tutorial users). .. Main work area should be PILOT-A ) .. Default task should be SINTRAN.

  • The courseware will not be able to run properly if you forget this!

3) Use @UE-PMAN to create a UE user with the name PILOT, the given password, PILOT- ') as main user area, and SINTRAN as standard task.

4) If you have the USER-ENVIRONMENT revision C01 (or newer), edit the Terminal Type field in the terminal profile for all TADs (Logical Device Number 768D and up):

3 Re-Install After Cold-Start:

The installation program makes a :MODE file on user SYSTEM. This file should later be used to re-install ND-PILOT after a COLD-START. Remember to update the DUMP-REENTRANT (or HENT-MODE) file with the following command:

@MODE DUMP-PILOT-A<rev>:MODE,,,

4 Issuing own courseware/application using ND-PILOT runtime

ND-PILOT runtime is a product offered free of charge. You are free to duplicate the product floppies in order to distribute own software on condition the enclosed 'THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE AGREEMENT' is signed and returned to Norsk Data. Signing of the agreement represents your acknowledgement of the terms and conditions as set out in the said software agreement.

  1. Make image copies of both PDS floppies.

    Insert a blank floppy in FLOPPY-DISC-1, unit 1 and execute these commands:

    Insert the first product floppy in FLOPPY-DISC-1, unit 0 and execute this command.

    The result of these commands is an exact copy of the first PDS product floppy.

3) Prepare your own courseware and copy all needed :PIL and :PICT files onto separate floppies. Make sure that you know:

  • The exact name of the directories
  • The sum of file sizes and the number of files on each directory.

4) Enter the copy of the second product floppy:

8) Any copy of the ND-PILOT Runtime System should be accompanied by a copy of this document except for the last page to be returned to Norsk Data.

Third Party Software Distribution Agreement

Customer:

(herein called Customer) hereby contracts for, and Norsk Data (herein called ND) for the right to use and distribute the ND-PILOT Runtime System:

(1) Charges

a) One copy of the ND-PILOT Runtime System, as supplied by ND, is provided free of charge insofar as it affects this agreement.

b) The Customer agrees to pay ND 10% of the wholesale value of any product containing the ND-PILOT Runtime System, either in part or in whole, excluding local taxes, or NOK 500 per product, whichever is the greater.

(2) Terms and Conditions

a) The ND-PILOT Runtime System shall at all times be the sole and exclusive property of ND.

b) The customer shall supply ND with a listing of third parties in receipt of the ND-PILOT Runtime System, (or any parts thereof), on a quarterly basis.

c) The Customer acknowledges that the ND-PILOT Runtime System is proprietary to ND, and agrees that any reproduction, copying or duplication of the ND-PILOT Runtime System will be carried out in accordance with the terms of this agreement.

(3) Termination of Agreement

a) ND reserves the right to terminate this agreement upon thirty (30) days written notice should the Customer fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions (see 2) contained herein.

b) Any copies of the ND-PILOT Runtime System held by the customer on termination of this agreement must be returned to ND. Copies or working versions of the ND-PILOT Runtime System held by the Customer must be destroyed.

c) Termination of this agreement does not absolve the Customer from obligations as stated under Terms and Conditions (see 2). Any monies outstanding to ND as a result of distribution of the ND-PILOT Runtime System, at the time of termination, shall become due.

(4) Warranty and Support

a) ND shall not be held liable for any damage caused through use of the ND-PILOT Runtime System.

b) ND will support the ND-PILOT Runtime System in accordance with the Customer's standard support agreements with ND.

c) ND shall not be responsible for support of the ND-PILOT Runtime System at third party sites.

d) ND undertakes to support the ND-PILOT Runtime System at third party sites.


This Agreement shall be signed and returned to ND at the address given above. A copy of the signed agreement will be returned to the Customer for reference purposes.
