DIALOGUE Example for ND-100 210869C

1 Additional Prerequisites

A) 1 SIBAS process. (1 SIBAS process means one SIBAS system number, to be used for the database 'DIALOGUE', delivered with DIALOGUE Example). For easy installation: use SIBAS system no. 2.

B) 2 internal devices (or SIBAS devices), for an ACCESS DDI process. The devices are to be used exclusively for this example. For easy installation: use numbers 128 and 129.

C) 1 batch processor for exclusive use by the special ACCESS DDI process mentioned above. For easy installation: use batch no. 2. In addition, batch process no. 1 should be available for ordinary batch jobs.

D) 1 user area defined on a MAIN directory (DEMOBASE).

E) 2 files on the SYSTEM default user area, altogether 6 SINTRAN pages must be available for them.

F) The minimal software requirements are listed on page 1. Some other software is used in some parts of the DIALOGUE Example, but is not absolutely necessary for the example to be useful:

ND-no Product
210185 ACCESS for ND-100 version E.
210193 NOTIS-RG for ND-100 version C.
210729 UNIQUE-II SIBAS for ND-100 version B.
210374 COSMOS Basic Module version B or later.
210713 ABM for ND-100 version A.
210724 NOTIS-BG for ND-100 version B or later.

If a new version of NOTIS-WP is installed, or a new language version of one of the other products, it may be necessary to re-install DIALOGUE Example to get it to work perfectly.

2 Changed Prerequisites

SIBAS version F is required. The other DIALOGUE products should, if you have them, be the versions listed above.

3 Modifications

The menu hierarchy has been split into six separate hierarchies, each of which can be accessed by two User Environment users.

Three of the NOTIS-RG applications now use NOTIS-BG to output diagrams.

4 Installation Procedure

If you have the A or B version of DIALOGUE Example, do the following:

  1. Delete all files on user area BACK-DEMOBASE, and then the user area itself.

  2. If you want to save any of the files on the user area DEMOBASE, we suggest you move them, at least temporarily, to another user area, and then delete user area DEMOBASE.

Alternatively, you can leave user area DEMOBASE as it is. The installation macros will in any case give DEMOBASE 1700 pages, so you will need to ensure that there is enough space on the directory, and reduce DEMOBASE's number of pages after you have finished installing. Most of the files on DEMOBASE will be replaced with new ones during installation.

Create User Areas

  1. Log in with the SYSTEM user area as current (through User Environment, - or through SINTRAN).

  2. Ensure that the directory on which DIALOG-SYS is located has at least 1600 free pages.

  3. If the user area DIALOG-DEMO exists, ensure that the directory on which it is located has at least 250 free pages. If it does not exist, find a directory for it with at least 250 free pages.

  4. Find a directory with at least 1900 free pages for the user area DEMOBASE. This should preferably be a different directory than the one for DIALOG-DEMO. It should have a higher directory index or be a non-default directory.

  5. Put the first floppy into FLOPPY-DISC-1, UNIT 0.

  6. Log in with SINTRAN user SYSTEM as current user area.

8) Answer the questions asked by the perform macro.

This macro creates the user areas DEMOBASE and DIALOG-DEMO (if it does not already exist), and gives DIALOG-SYS more pages. It also copies a PERFORM macro file to the SYSTEM user area.

9) Make sure that the user names above have the following unique abbreviations: DEMOB, DIA-SYS.

Regulate the users' access to the user areas

1) Log in with user area DIALOG-SYS as current.

2) Do the following:

⎕PERFORM⊣

:MCRO Filename: (system)DIALOG-PATCH-1⊣
Macro name (Default = FTN): ACC-DIA-SYS⊣

3) Log in with user area DEMOBASE as current.

Steps to Follow

  1. Do the following:

    @PERFORM⏎
    :MCRO Filename : (SYSTEM)DIALOG-PATCH-1⏎
    Macro name (Default = FTN) : ACC-DIA-DEM⏎

  2. Answer the questions.

  3. Log in with SYSTEM as current user area.

  4. Delete the macro file created on SYSTEM:

    @DELETE-FILE (SYSTEM)DIALOG-PATCH-1:MCRO⏎

Copy Files from the Floppies

  1. Log in with DIALOG-SYS as current user area.

  2. If there are any files on user DIALOG-SYS whose names begin with DX-, delete them all.

  3. Copy all files from all floppies into the DIALOG-SYS area, using the backup system.

    Remember to release the directories!

Generate Files

  1. Move to a VDU (screen) terminal, preferably a NOTIS terminal (if you are not already using one).

Some of the steps later in this installation procedure can be performed only from a VDU terminal.

  2. Log in with SYSTEM as your user area, in SINTRAN command mode.

Use ∮UE-FUNC SINTRAN to get out of the User Environment menus, if that is where you are.

SINTRAN is necessary because you cannot use MODE or PERFORM from User Environment menus directly.

  3. Fill in the 6 lists of parameters below before you run the perform macros that need these parameters.

For questions regarding DIALOGUE products which are not installed on your machine, giving the default answers.

Note: "The CR key", as used below, means the key that is labeled "J" on NOTIS terminals, and "RETURN" on most console terminals.

In the list below, the 'Line mode' names of the commands in NOTIS-WP are given in English and Norwegian. If you have a NOTIS-WP that is neither English nor Norwegian, you can find these command names as follows:

Start NOTIS-WP and give the command # (to get into line mode). Then write HELP in the appropriate language to get a list of the commands.

Instructions

15) Log in to User Environment as a User Environment user with supervisor status, and with SINTRAN user area SYSTEM as current.

Use the command:

@USER-LOGIN=

If nobody has done this before, use the name SYSTEM, with any password and project (no project if accounting is not running).

16) If you now have a menu on your screen, switch to SINTRAN command mode by typing:

@UE-FUNC SINTRAN=

17) Do the following:

@PERFORM=

:MCRO Filename : (DIALOG-SYS)DX-PATCH-2=

Macro name (Default = FTN) : PATCH-USERS=

18) Answer the questions, using "list 6 (USERS)".

19) Type:

@PERFORM (DIALOG-SYS)DX-PATCH-1 P-TEST=

There is a 'bug' in some PERFORM versions which creates trouble for the User Environment system: it cannot take all parameters from a single line. This is a test for that 'bug'. If you get 'ØØ OK' on the screen at the end, your PERFORM does not have this 'bug'. If it cannot find the macro P-TEST, however, you must install PERFORM-G, which can be found as a file called DX-PERFORM-G:PROG on the user area DIALOG-SYS.

Copy the DIALOGUE database, data descriptions and applications

1) Give the command:

@PERFORM (DIALOG-SYS)D-1-S-P RESTO-EXAMPLE=

This macro copies the special files for the example.

ACCESS will respond with:

"The help file has been dumped"

4) Press the EXIT key.

Create .Jinitfiles for the M Version of NOTIS-WP

1) If your installation's NOTIS-WP is the K or L version, skip to "Start the SIBAS Database".

2) If you have COSMOS on your computer, skip to step 11.

3) While still logged in to UE, Start NOTIS-WP.

This can be done from the menus by typing:

DIALOGUE Example for ND-100 STPR

Process Instructions

This is done as follows: If you have command menus, type "MW"; if you do not have command menus, type "1".

5) Make sure that "Command menu mode" and "Use document storage" are both set to "N".

6) Press \ to leave the menu.

7) Give the | command (SHIFT + `).

8) Press the EXIT key to leave NOTIS-WP.

9) Repeat steps 2 to 8 for the following 11 UE users:

DIA-MAKE-APP Password: S-DIA-RUN-APPL Password:
DIA-DATA-DES same as S-DIA-MAKE-APP Same as "password
DIA-DATAB DIA-RUN-APPL S-DIA-DATA-DES for UE users WITH
DIA-SYS-MAIN S-DIA-DATAB access to the
DIA-INIT-SYS S-DIA-SYS-MAIN SINTRAN user area
                              S-DIA-INIT-SYS SYSTEM" in LIST 6

10) Skip to step 12.

11) Type:

Ø(DIALOG-SYS)DX-WPINIT

12) Start NOTIS-WP.

13) Check that "Command menu mode" and "Document storage" in the "WP-environment" menu are both N.

If this is not the case, it means that your NOTIS-WP does not automatically fetch the initfile on startup. You must re-install NOTIS-WP to change this. Unless you do, some of the menu options in DIALOGUE Example will not work.

Start the SIBAS Database

1) Log in to UE as user S-DIA-INIT-SYS.

2) Select "Initialize databases".

3) Select "Start the SIBAS database".

4) Select the menu options 4, 5, 7 and 9 in succession.

This is to start the special ACCESS DDI process for the example system.

  2. Include the following in the file (SYSTEM)HENT-MODE:

    ∅PERFORM (DEMOBASE)DIALOGUE DUN1,..........

Optional Adjustments

  1. You may declare the terminals to be USER-ENVIRONMENT terminals by the UE-AUTOMATIC-LOGIN command in SINTRAN.

  2. To make sure that the file (SYSTEM)HENT-MODE and the mode/batch files it starts are complete, that is, that they include all the dumps and starts necessary for DIALOGUE, you can look at the file (DEMOBASE)DEMO-HENT-MODE:MODE to see what is needed.

Notes on the menu system

1) To give a SINTRAN command while in the menus: write Ø instead of choosing a task, and then write the command (with parameters).

2) You cannot write ØPERFORM or ØMODE when in the menus. Instead, write

ØUE-FUNC PERFORM⌟
or
ØUE-FUNC MODE⌟

3) If your PERFORM or MODE job ends up outside the menus, write

ØUE-MENU⌟
and you will return to the menus.

4) Press SHIFT + EXIT to get directly to the MAIN menu from anywhere!

5) To log out: Press the EXIT key when you are in the MAIN menu.

6) To change the current user area: instead of choosing a menu option, write CHANGE-TO-FROM-USER-SYSTEM or an abbreviation.

7) The macro RESTO-ACCESS initiates a batch processor for ACCESS DDI. This batch may be restored to normal use for batch jobs by using the macro INTIMSL:

ØPERFORM (DIALOG-SYS)D INTIMSL⌟

8) The manual is now on the file (DEM0BASE)DIALOGUE-INTRO:OUT, and may be printed using NOTIS-WP.
