    - Insert a scratch streamer cassette into the streamer drive. - Log in as user SYSTEM and start the BACKUP-MANAGER from the ND EServer System Administrator menu option 3.0 (backup) or from SINTRAN by doing the command @BM-OPERATOR-. - Use the backup set BACKUP-FILES to save not standard platform files to streamer. All files and users NOT listed in the file (PROG-FILES)EXCLUDE-FILES:SYMB will be copied to the streamer cassette.

When the new Basic System Package is installed, these files can be copied back to user SYSTEM on PACK-BASIC-A (ref. point 1h.).

The installation of the basic platform is now complete and ready to operate with a new version of the basic software.

CAUTION!

Remember to take a complete backup of the System disk PACK-BASIC-A, PACK-MAIN-SW, PACK-EXTENSION and PACK-APPLICATION (PACK-APPLICATION is optional). This is for security reasons in case of disk problems later on.

7 Errors Corrected

All reported errors have been corrected except those listed in section 9.

8 Errors Known But Not Corrected

  • SPRINT Sintran spooling system (211056A05)

    • If on startup of Sprint, device numbers 1032-1039 (and maybe others) are being used, Sprint will not be able to stop the SPRT programs which have reserved these device numbers. Consequently, Sprint will not be able to use the associated printers.
  • BACKUP Manager (211226B04):

    • RESTART-USER in the menu is not fully corrected. It is not possible to do this against a remote server.
    • Problems with treating EOF-status as OK after 'space-EOF' function. This is a problem for non-SCSI mag-tape drives when listing volumes on more tapes.

9 Limitations

  • BACKUP Manager (211226 B04):

    • Indexed files larger than 65000 pages cannot be copied by Backup Manager. (Contiguous files can be copied when logged in as user SYSTEM)
    • When performing image copying in batch mode (for example, via BM-scheduler) you cannot copy the directory where the input and device output batch files for this job are located. (Normally the directory where user area SYSTEM and ND-OPERATIONS is located).
    • You cannot copy TO a DOMINO/SCSI tape-device from a remote computer.
    • Image backup from N100 disks to tape/GTS devices connected to DSS is not possible.

Special Modification Patches (SM-patches)

SM-patches are patches for customers with special needs (the different SM-patches for SINTRAN vers. L is described below).

How to Implement

  1. Edit in the right patch number in the file PF-MODIF-L:FADM on user SYSTEM
  2. Run the mode job (spec-modif-patc)sm-start-patch-file:mode @MODE (SPEC-MODIF-PATCH)SM-START-PATCH-FILE:MODE
  3. Run through a SHUTDOWN procedure and do a @COLD-START

Example of what a PF MODIF:FADM file looks like:

PNI19 %Here the SM-patch I19 is implemented

SPRINT SINTRAN Spooling System (211056A05)

  • Sprint will not accept documents stored under NOTIS-DS. Such documents must be moved to SINTRAN if they are to be printed.
  • If remote printing is to be successful, the SSYOPEN routine in the SSYLIB library requires that the local system name corresponds to the first system name defined on the remote machine.

Installation of a New Printer Driver in SPRINT

The following sprint drivers could be installed from the disk:

----Not handling Open Lan----

PHILIPS-300 DP-55 EPSON-MX80 EPSON-RX80 DIABLO-1650
DIABLO-1610 DIABLO-630 TEC-F10 OLIVETTI GEN-3024

ND-616cn
ND-720PP
ND-460TTP
ND-PSCRIPT
PHILIPS-300
CANON-LBP8
LINE-PRINTER
VISION SERVER

To start the installation program, log into user SYSTEM and give the command:

@(SPRINT-USER)IN-PRM

The rest of the procedure is self-explanatory.

If a printer driver is going to be installed from a diskette, the installation program has to be started from the diskette containing the printer driver and the installation program. When you are asked where to put the new printer driver(s), the user name must be SPRINT-USER (default answer is nd-operations).

EServer System Administration Menu

On this platform (A01) you have the possibility to have the EServer administration menu in two languages, English or Norwegian. To change from Norwegian to English or the other way around you have to do the following:

  • Log into UE-user SYSTEM
  • Call the User Environment profile manager by typing @UE-PMAN
  • Then you get into a menu where you are asked for user name, and there you put in SYSTEM.
  • Further down in the menu you are asked for language and here you have to put in the wanted language (Norwegian or English).
  • The menu system name is (SYSTEM)ES-MENU
  • To get out of the menu, press the EXIT button.

Defining of Extra Swap- and Segment-Files

If you need more swap- or segment-files you have to update two different files:

  • (ND-OPERATIONS)BM-PARAMETER-B:DATA
  • (MODE-FILES)USER-DISKS:MODE
  1. @PED (ND-OPERATIONS)BM-PARAMETER-B:DATA

Here you put in the following:

    IMAGE-NO-COMPARE-FILE = (SWAP-USER)SWAP-FILE-<X>:SWAP
    for extra swap file, or
    IMAGE-NO-COMPARE-FILE = (SWAP-USER)SEGFIL<X>:DATA
    for extra segment file.
(SWAP-USER) = Name of the user containing the
       SWAP or SEGMENT file
<X> = SWAP or SEGMENT file number

  2. @PED (MODE-FILES)USER-DISKS:MODE

At the end of this file you put in the following:

    @ND
    DELETE-SWAP-FILE (SWAP-USER)SWAP-FILE-<X>:SWAP
    DEFINE-SWAP-FILE (SWAP-USER)SWAP-FILE-<X>:SWAP
    EXIT
