SIBAS Manager (211455A06)

Report no. Title
2 Error when running Consistency check (batch) on a renamed database user and directory.

SPRINT Spooling System (211056A07)

Report no. Title
- The first printers in the SPRINT table did not start properly.
- Queue entries in SPRINT had to be 'forced' out one by one.

Occasionally, print jobs could be printed on the wrong printer.

When more than 56 local and/or OpenLAN printers are defined, the error message 'No more free service ports available' sometimes occurred at SPRINT start-up.

Other hints:

If a printer gives an error message in SPRINT, you should check the printer itself before you stop and start the printer in SPRINT. Unnecessary restarting of printers will jam SPRINT, and you may end up with the message 'Sprint is busy'.

If the error device does not work, you will also get 'Sprint is busy'.

5 Errors Known but Not Corrected

SIBAS/R (220001B07)

Report no. Title
2 Index tables destroyed in transactions.
3 Trace information is uninitialized in scheduler.
4 Error in disk cache

Corrections to these errors are available as patches.

SPRINT Printer Drivers

Report no. Title
Version A07 of the SPRINT Printer Drivers (delivered with version C of the platform only) occasionally gives one of the error messages 'Outside segment bounds' or 'Argument Invalid' after the first printout on OpenLAN Printers. This is avoided by inserting the protocol name (e.g.: port=telnet) after the printer name in the AIP-HOSTS:SYMB file. Then restart SPRINT. For example: 130.067.006.132 printer name port=telnet

6 Modifications

This platform upgrade includes new versions of some of the products.

This section describes the major changes, if any, in the products.

ND-5830/5850 Microprogram

A separate Octobus driver is introduced in Nucleus to avoid the error code 2132₈ (Lock timeout).

Two new instructions have been implemented: - CLEDTSB (clear entry data TSB) - PCEDTSB (clear entry program TSB)

NOTIS-DS Version E04 (The Program DS-DOCREC)

The program DS-DOCREC, which is used to restore single documents from a tape backup of a NOTIS-DS database, is included.

User Environment Revision E00

The new version of the UE-RUN program (revision E01) has been adjusted for ADI (Application Development Interface).

Page 23

Special Modification Patches

Special Modification patches may now be installed while SINTRAN is running.

The installation is done as follows:

  1. Edit the file (SYSTEM)PF-MODIF-N:FADM so it contains the number(s) of the patch(es) you want to install (for example PN032). Ensure that the file is in 7-bit format.

  2. Run the program (SPEC-MODIF-PATCH)SM-PATCH from user SYSTEM. This program will install the right patches in SINTRAN save area. During the installation you may get a warning, telling you that the patch is already installed, and a question if you want to reinstall the patch. Normally, you answer No to that question. An exception is when you are going to install a new version of a patch.

  3. Run a cold start to get the patches into effect.

  4. The files (SYSTEM)SM-PATCH-FILE:OUT and (SYSTEM)SM-PATCHES:OUT are the output files from the SM-PATCH program. Inspect them if something goes wrong during the installation.

8 General Information

Backup Manager Revision B05

The following limitation applies:
It is not possible to perform an IMAGE copy to or from a remote system.

SIBAS/R Revision B07

Additions/corrections to the documentation:

DIALOGUE Operations (830072.3):

Definition of the SQL Server:

Two new SW-CONFIG commands have been implemented to tune the performance of the SQL server. These are commands to the SQL server and must be placed in the section "SYSTEM-NAME : SQL-SERVER" in the SW-CONFIG file (refer to chapter 5.6.4 "The configuration file" in the manual).

  • SYSTEM-NAME : SQL-SERVER-
  • SQL-THREADS =
  • SQL-PRIORITY =

<SIBAS server no.> : SIBAS process number (without leading zero).

<NThreads> : Number of SQL threads in use (1-4).
One (1) thread gives a single-thread SQL server (default).

<NRecords> : Number of records the SQL server can access before it gives up its priority and SIBAS can start another thread (default = 100 records).

Work Space for the SQL Server

The work area (SINTRAN user area) for the SQL server must be defined in the SW-CONFIG file under the section "SYSTEM-NAME : SQL-SERVER-xxx".

DATA-FILE = (user name) file name
"file name" is used by the SQL server to generate names of the work files.
"file name" is only a prefix to the file names created by the SQL server and can be up to 13 characters long.
File type may not be given.

The SQL server will create (no. of threads * 5 + 3) work files on the SINTRAN user area defined. All files are created when the SQL server is starting, if they do not already exist. If the files already exist, all allocated file space will be released (it is quite safe to delete all the work files of a passive server).

The necessary work space on the SINTRAN user area depends on the following parameters: what kind of SQL queries to be run; the size of the returned data; if the data must be sorted; the number of active cursors; if "joins" are used; and the number of SQL threads in use (a set of work files is created for each thread).

The only way of finding the necessary work space is therefore to allocate a large amount of extra space and later release the unused space when the system has been in operation for a while (for example 5000–10000 pages).

DIALOGUE-SIBAS/R Application Development (DML) (860290.2)

Release Process Number, RELDV

The SIBAS call RELDV now has a new code for "ProcessNo":

  • ProcessNo = -2
means all connections for all processes will be disconnected and all communication resources released. (ProcessNo = -1 will not release all communication resources).

If you use a program to access databases on more than one remote computer using TCP/IP communication, the program should do a RELDV(xx) on all process numbers used before terminating. A call to RELDV(-2,status) will release all resources for all process numbers.

Transaction Begin, STUBG:

The SIBAS call STUBG now has two new OptionCodes:

  • OptionCode = 4
    • Means that the tables listed in 'TableNames' are reserved for exclusive update for the user identified by 'UserID', until SUEND is called.
    • Other users may read from these tables concurrently.
    • The user identified by 'UserID' may also read from all tables not listed in 'TableNames'.
  • OptionCode = 5
    • Same as for 4 above, but other users are not allowed to read from the tables.

Added Function:

SIBAS/R B07 and QBE Vision:

To be able to use the new revision of QBE Vision (revision 2.06) to access a SIBAS database, using TCP/IP communication, SIBAS/R revision B07 has been modified to do "UE-login check" for QBE Vision.

This implies that a user does not need to log in to User Environment on a SINTRAN system, but QBE vision will ask for the User Environment username and password and send it to the SQL Server (part of SIBAS/R revision B07). The SQL Server will perform the UE-login check in the server system.

This means that all users of QBE Vision must have a User Environment user on the server.

The SIBAS process (SQL Server) in revision B07 has been modified to be able to log in as User Environment user SERVERS, and a new limitation has been introduced:

  • The Database Administrator, which is defined in the file SW-CONFIG, must be created as user category Operator/Supervisor to be able to start a SIBAS process.

The handling of User Environment login is not default in the SIBAS process and must be specified in the file (SIBR-B)SIBRC-B07:DUMP. The procedure for activating User Environment login is described at the end of this file.

Note: Remember to set all the SIBAS processes in the passive state before the MODE file (SIBR-B)SIBRC-B07:DUMP is started.

SPRINT OpenLAN Printers with SINTRAN Spooling Queue

The procedure for defining OpenLAN printers with a SINTRAN spooling queue is as follows:

  1. Select a SINTRAN logical device number between 2300₈ and 2377₈ (1216 to 1279 decimal).

  2. Connect the logical device number to the COSPO data field:

    • Read the file SYMBOL-2-LIST:SYMB into an editor (for example PED) and find the symbol F1731. Note the value of the symbol.
    • In a standard ND tpServer platform version C02 the value (data field address) is 077536.

    Note:
This address may be different in later version. You should therefore always verify the value of this address, because patching in the wrong address may cause serious damage to your system.

  3. Then execute the following commands:

    @SINTRAN-SERVICE
    INSERT-IN-LOGICAL-UNIT-TABLE
LOGICAL UNIT NUMBER (OCT): 23xx (use the device number you selected)
    INPUT OR OUTPUT? OUT
DATAFIELD ADDRESS (OCT): 077536 (use the address you noted above)
    MEMORY? YES
    IMAGE? YES
    SAVE-AREA? YES
    EXIT

  4. Define the device number in the S3-CONFIG program and then perform a cold start or use the command SET-SPOOLING-DEVICE in the SINTRAN Service Program.

  5. Define a peripheral file and spooling files in the usual way.

  6. Stop COSMOS spooling by executing the command @ABORT COSPO
(Otherwise you will get the error message Device already defined when defining the printer in SPRINT).

  7. Define the printer in AIP-HOST:SYMB and SPRINT.

  8. Start COSMOS spooling: @START-SPOOLING COSMOS-SPOOLING

  9. Stop and start SPRINT.
Otherwise you will get the error message Not opened for sequential read when printing via SINTRAN III.

If the printer is only to be used from NOTIS-WP version N or later or other applications with a direct SPRINT interface, you should skip all steps above except 7 and 9.

Page 28

UPS Server for SINTRAN Version A

The server RT-program PFTCON will be started during a SINTRAN start-up, when running SINTRAN version N or later. The RT-program is an integrated part of SINTRAN N.

The PFTCON server will check if the UPS Power Supply is present by sending Octobus messages to the Octobus station of the UPS power supply. If no answer is returned from the UPS then the UPS power-server PFTCON will enter the passive state, otherwise it will reserve a TAD logical device and start the communication with the UPS Octobus station.

If a power is lost for more than ten seconds, the UPS power server will detect this, and the TAD device already reserved will execute the command:

MODE SHUT-POWERFAIL:MODE SHUT-POWERFAIL:OUT

When the mode file is finished, the UPS power server will take over and send an Octobus message to the UPS power to turn off the power to avoid battery drainage.

The SHUT-POWERFAIL:MODE is included in the platform software. For a non-platform system, this mode file should be modified according to the customer needs.

Note:
The files must not be deleted nor renamed!

A monitor program for display and adjustments can be used with the UPS Power Server. This program is called PS-MONITOR, and it uses Nucleus for communication with the power supply (requires that the command @START-SERVERS has been executed, and that your system is an ND-5000).

Unnecessary starting of printers will 'jam' SPRINT, and you may end up with the message 'Sprint is busy'.

Note that OpenLAN printers may sometimes give 'misleading' error messages. If a printer stops due to paper crash or empty input bin during a printout, the connection will stay open and give one of the messages 'Printer is occupied. Waiting for access' or 'Impossible to send data to printer' when printing from another system. These messages may then also mean paper crash if they do not disappear within reasonable time.

Always check the printer itself before you do anything else.
