ND 10152 NOTIS Information Storage Module

INTRODUCTION

NOTIS Information Storage Module is a computer-aided system for storage and retrieval of text documents. It may be run on Nord-10 and ND-100 machines under the Sintran III system.

NOTIS Information Storage Module has been developed as a cooperative enterprise between Norsk Data and The Government Institution of Organization and Management within the SISU project.

Documents may be retrieved through various search keys, and keys or indices may be freely chosen. The Information Storage Module also permits searches according to contents of the documents.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Each organization has its own forms for information storage. In the NOTIS Information Storage Module individual forms may be created on the screen by the use of function keys on the terminal keyboard. Simple commands define the field. Forms may be stored in the computer under specified names, and may later be retrieved and modified. Key fields may be marked for subsequent searches.

For the registration of data, a specific command may call up a wanted form on the screen. The fields on the form may then be filled in.

In order to give commands, the system must be in command mode. Commands are written on the top line of the screen, and may consist of one or more words linked by hyphens. Abbreviations may be used if they are unambiguous.
Forms are stored by giving the command «STORE FORM». If it is desirable to register documents, the command «REGISTER DOCUMENT» accomplishes this.

It is possible to produce forms that are larger than the area shown on the screen. By continuing to write after the last line or by pressing the down-arrow function key, forms as long as 200 lines may be made.

Already existing forms or documents may be modified or erased. The command «LIST-FORM» will give a list of already listed forms. Various keys make it possible to search through the different pages of a document, or to go through a selection of registered documents.

Searches may be done according to pre-defined key words. If there are many forms with the same first key word, subsequent key words will narrow down the search.
It is also possible to search by filling in as much as is known about the content of a desired form, and search for the complete version, or searches may be made for alternative field contents.

Queries may be made according to a pre-defined query language. Queries are made up of operands and operators. An example of a logical operation is the expression «A. Or.B.», where A and B are randomly chosen words. It is satisfied by all documents which contain either A or B or both.

Documents may be printed out individually as shown on the screen, as found after a successful search, or based upon all the documents in the data base.
