ND 242 Display Terminal Tandberg TDV 2215

ND 243 RS 232/V 24 Printer Interface for ND242

ND 244 Current Loop Interface for ND 242

ND 245 Print Buffer for ND 242

Introduction

The display terminal TDV 2215 provides an adjustable stand to accommodate people of different sizes. It may be swiveled and tilted to reduce interference from window and overhead lighting, and the height may be adjusted to suit viewing and sitting comfort.

The keyboard is moveable, and has a low profile permitting use on standard office desks.

The large 15" diagonal screen is treated to reduce reflection, and displays 25 lines of 80 characters in a 9 x 14 dot cell.

By careful thermal engineering and low power consumption a cooling fan is not required. The TDV 2215 operation is completely silent.

Product Description

The TDV 2215 employs non-volatile memory that the user can erase and program (EAROM). Information stored in this memory stays there for many years, regardless of whether the power is on or off.

PUSH-keys™ save time and operator mistakes

TDV 2215 provides PUSH-button functions for sixteen user programmed character strings.

PUSH, Programmable Utility for String Handling, is a unique feature of the terminals for the 80's. On TDV 2215 the user can program often used words or code sequences. Instead of typing these again and again, the operator simply touches the appropriate PUSH-key.

Keyboard of TDV 2215

The keyboard of TDV 2215 has eight PUSH-keys that can be used with SHIFT to provide sixteen functions.

Features

  • TDV 2115 compatible control characters with extensions.
  • 15’’ screen with bonded anti-reflex faceplate.
  • Stand has height, tilt, and swivel adjustment to enable a comfortable working posture to be assumed.
  • Low profile keyboard.
  • 256 characters include upper and lower case characters, line drawing, histogram, numeric sub/superscript, and plot characters.
  • The TDV 2215 can either be run in TDV 2115 compatible mode, or in an extended mode in which additional features are available.
  • Insert, delete and erase functions.
  • Direct cursor addressing from host.
  • Cursor position report to host.
  • Local tab handling.
  • Local and remote printer control, giving hard copy, terminal bypass or transaction logging.
  • Optional one-page print buffer enabling printing to be done as a background task.
  • PUSH-keys allowing commonly used words or control strings to be transmitted by pushing a single key. The strings associated with PUSH-keys are stored in non-volatile memory and are not lost when power is turned off.
  • All switches reside in non-volatile memory ensuring simple set-up. Set-up is done using self-explanatory menus.

Specifications

Display Characteristics

  • CRT: 15’’ diagonal with bonded anti-reflex faceplate.
  • Characters per line: 80.
  • Number of lines: 25.
  • Character matrix: 7 x 9 dot characters in a 9 x 14 dot cell.
  • Character set: Full upper and lower case character sets are available in international, German, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish versions. All standard sets contain semigraphic characters for line drawing, histograms plotting, and numeric subscript/superscript.
  • Display modes: In addition to the TDV 2115 underline and attribute mode, the display mode can be controlled on a character-by-character basis. 16 display modes are available: Combinations of underline, blink, inverse video, and low intensity. Double-width display and invisible are also included.
  • Refresh rate: 50 Hz.
  • Cursor: Underline blinking and steady block cursor are softswitch selectable.

  • Cursor left.
  • Cursor up.
  • Cursor down.
  • Cursor home.
  • Cursor position.
  • Request for cursor report.

Scroll Control

  • Scroll up.
  • Scroll down.
  • Soft or set scroll is selectable by soft-switch.

Tab Functions

  • Horizontal tab.
  • Backward horizontal tab.

  • Delete line.
  • Erase line (TDV 2115 mode).
  • Erase in line. **
  • Erase page (TDV 2115 mode).
  • Erase in display. **

* With parameter that indicates the function to be performed on several characters or lines in one operation.

** With parameter that indicates several different ways of performing the function.

Soft-switch Control

  • Set mode.
  • Reset mode.

These control functions allow a number of the soft-switches to be controlled remotely without affecting the setting at the next power on.

PUSH-key Loading

  • 16 PUSH-key strings can be loaded from the host computer.

Keyboard Characteristics

  • Number of keys: Maximum 122.
  • Interface: Serial asynchronous communication is used between keyboard and terminal. Communication is bidirectional allowing commands to be sent to the keyboard.
  • Cable: Six-wire coiled flexible cable.
  • Indicators: Seven LEDs are used. Three are programmable and the remaining four indicate line interface status.

Sound

A bell and click transducer is included. Their operation is controlled by softswitches.

Interface

The ND 242 is interfaced to a ND computer via a 20 mA current loop interface or the CCITT V.24 (EIA RS-232 C) standard connection via modems and modem interfaces. A start/stop character format with two stop bits (11 bit code) is used. Parity bit generation and error detection use even parity. Transmission speed is switch selectable from 110 to 9600 baud.

Printer Control

  • Start hard copy.
  • Start relay to printer.
  • Stop relay to printer.

This allows for hard copy and independent printing (terminal bypass). Transaction logging can be initiated by remote switch setting.
