Dual Channel Disk Switch¶
Introduction¶
The disk drive is capable of responding to only one controller at a time, and the controllers must compete for use of the drive. For this reason, a dual channel disk switch can be connected between the controllers and the disk drives to take care of this selection.
The software controlled dual channel disk switch is available in three different types, which can switch from one to four disk drives between two CPUs. These switches are available both as free-standing units and in filestore cabinet-mounted versions.
Features¶
- Direct connection to two separate CPUs.
- The operator does not have to worry about the switching.
- It is possible to disable either channel by a Forced Select Switch at the front panel.
Product Description¶
The dual channel disk switch is designed to handle only flat cable versions of the Storage Module Drives. The local drives on each controller must also be flat cable versions.
Models¶
The disk switch unit is delivered in three different models:
- ND 105990 (free standing) and ND 105991 (cabinet mounted) can switch up to two disk drives between two CPUs. Both disk drives will be switched at the same time.
- ND 106390 (free standing) and ND 106391 (cabinet mounted) can switch up to four disk drives between two CPUs. All four disk drives will be switched at the same time.
- ND 106410 (cabinet mounted) can switch up to four (two plus two) disk drives between two CPUs. Two disk drives can be switched at a time.
