ND 10312 VIP 7750 - Emulator - II¶
INTRODUCTION¶
The ND VIP 7750 emulates the Honeywell Bull VIP 7750-terminal. It is a remote interactive terminal which communicates with a Honeywell Bull host computer.
The VIP-emulator contains a number of edit functions, cursor positioning and command functions. The screen page or the last message typed by the operator will be sent to the host computer when one of the two TRANSMIT keys is pressed. The screen page may be printed on a local printing device or to a specified local disk file.
The emulator features an up to date operator communication and requires only a minimum of operator training to be used.
ND VIP 7750 uses the ASCII character codes with two modifications:
- A BLINK character which causes the following text entered to blink, and a
- BLANK character which renders the following text invisible.
FEATURES¶
- Easy system I/O access
- Transmission rates up to 9600 bps
- Defineable control keys
- Local standard terminal functions for Honeywell Bull 7750
- Variable fields may be defined in random sequence
- «Bell» causes a beep
- Upper and lower case letters
- Screen picture may be copied to any file or printer
- Consecutive screen pictures may be copied to the same file
- May run concurrent with other activities on ND machine
- As simple to use as with a Honeywell Bull computer
- May be run concurrently with ND Spooling System
- Up to four communication lines
- Screen output concurrent with data reception
- May transfer freely between the emulator and the SINTRAN operating system (temporary exit)
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION¶
The VIP 7750 - Emulator is an RT program system, consisting of a number of terminal RT programs and a line procedure RT program with interfacing routines. The screen handling facilities are taken care of by a number of reentrant subroutines.
The VIP - Emulator program system is highly optimized with respect to CPU resources used, and it has included a special buffer system in order to minimize the response delays. This implies that the data received are transferred to the screen almost simultaneously with reception from the communication line. The message is hereby acknowledged immediately after the last character is received, reducing the message administration time. In this way no additional time delays are introduced by the local system.
Formatted screen-pictures are built by using special control characters as output to the terminal in a predetermined sequence. The emulator interprets all standard Honeywell Bull control characters and in addition all lower case letters and «bell».

Technical Documentation¶
In building a formatted screen picture, the programmer may, if wanted, define the variable fields in a random sequence on the screen. This does not match the standard Honeywell Bull VIP specifications, which demand a straight top to bottom, left to right definition of the variable fields.
Any local VIP-function may be assigned to any key on the terminal. The emulator has an internal table where every input character is converted to an internal code. Change of function-keys may be done by changing entries in this table.
It is possible to make a TEMPORARY EXIT from VIP which returns to SINTRAN command level with the Honeywell Bull connection kept reserved for the terminal. Reentering VIP will then cause a return to the point left in the Honeywell Bull processing. The FINAL EXIT on the other hand, disconnects the Honeywell Bull connection, when returning to SINTRAN command level.
The ND VIP terminal may be used in a multipoint network, where several VIP program systems go to one port on the data network, ND 355.
